DLEACS and National Summer School Institute

DLEACS knows that this summer, with camps and activities likely closed and/or operating in a limited capacity, many families are wondering how to keep their scholars active and engaged.  We also know that many families want to make sure that their scholar’s academic progress isn’t disrupted by the 14 weeks of COVID19 school closures. Because of this, we will offer all students an opportunity to strengthen their academic standing.

Children in kindergarten through second grade are eligible to enroll in the C.O.M.P.L.E.T.E. Direction 2020 Summer Bridge Session. The program is designed to give students a jump-start on core concepts they will be exposed to during the 2020 –2021 school year.

To impact our scholars in grades 3-8, DLEACS has partnered with other school districts around the country to participate in the National Summer School Initiative (NSSI).

About National Summer School Initiative (NSSI)

The National Summer School Initiative is a remote summer school that focuses on exciting and engaging content for all students. All Math and English classes will be taught by DLEACS teachers. Academic lessons will focus on Math problem solving and English Language Arts close reading. In addition to core academic instruction, students will have a morning meeting or advisory with their teacher, a movement session, and a wide range of enrichment options. Enrichment will be taught by professionals from around the country and will include science, coding, civics, and the arts. The National Summer School Initiative is open to all students currently in grades 3-8 (rising 3rd to 8th graders).

Both the Kindergarten through second grade and the 3-8 programs will operate on Monday -Thursdays, for five weeks, beginning June 29, 2020 and ending on July 30, 2020 (July 31st for NSSI participants).

It is important to note either program may be required for a student who has been recommended by their teacher because he/ she is struggling or may have fallen behind academically.

Free meals will be provided through July 31st for ALL DLEACS students. Pick up days will be on Mondays & Wednesdays (Mondays: for Monday & Tuesday) and Wednesdays (Wednesdays: Wednesday through Friday) in the school courtyard from 8:00am-9:30am. For more details contact Ms. G., our food service coordinator.
