The board of trustees of Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School will hold its scheduled board meeting on March 24, 2020, at 6:30 pm. In lieu of having an open, pubic board meeting, the meeting will be held remotely. We invite members of the community to send us public comments which can be read aloud and discussed.

@Dr. Jennifer Turner: On March 26, 2020, Governor Phil Murphy expressed that schools will not reopen before April 17, 2020. The State will address closure at that time. Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School has provided devices (property of the school) to students who have expressed a need for technology in the home. To date, we have given out forty-nine (49) computers to families. School meals are provided by the Jersey City Public School district. A survey of parents concluded that 25 DLEACS students are receiving those meals. The Hudson County Superintendent provides support and guidance to all schools regarding, social services, technology, special education and areas of ongoing academic achievement. At school, our guidance counselor and nurse (as well as faculty) provide community resources to our families to navigate through this unprecedented national crisis. Additionally, all staff is available Monday- Friday via phone and e-mail for support of our new virtual environment.

@Marissa: The board of trustees will not vote on the matter. Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School and Board of Trustees operates under the governance of the New Jersey Department of Education. Governor Phil Murphy is the commander in chief for the State of New Jersey. Schools were closed by executive order and likewise will open under the same style decree.

Team Work makes the Dream work is our administrators motto and they live it everyday especially now when we don't know what the future holds. Our administrators work hard to make sure our student's education continue and we are given support and resources to make sure it happens. I am proud and happy to work for administrators who care about their faculty and each and every student and their family. We will get through this pandemic and be better because we are led by the best!

When will the school re-open? Do all students have the necessary tools, e.g. computers and internet access, to learn remotely? Are students who relied on school meals still getting access to those meals? What kind of support is the school offering parents who may be overwhelmed with the stress of suddenly becoming teachers, as well as dealing with economic challenges due to the governmental containment measures?
