RE: Coronavirus Disease 2020 (COVID – 19)

As we enter into the traditional time where many families plan Spring vacations we are strongly suggesting that you take all necessary precautions to protect your family from contracting the COVID – 19.

According to the New Jersey Department of Health, “COVID-2019 is a respiratory infection caused by a novel (new) virus that arose from the area of Wuhan, China in December 2019. Most of the early cases of this illness were linked to a large seafood and animal market suggesting possible animal-to-person spread of the virus.”  COVID – 19 symptoms appear within 2 days and as long as 14 days after exposure to the Coronavirus.

The CDC has reported that illness has ranged from mild to severe and up to including death. The symptoms are usually fever, cough, and shortness of breath.

If you travel out of state and/or particularly outside the United States we need you to take the following precautions before your student returns to the school community:

  1. Ensure that your child does not have a fever (any temperature above 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.)
  2. If your child has contracted a fever before returning to school your child must be free of elevated temperature for a minimum of 24 hours prior to the start of the school day.

According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) “There is no specific antiviral treatment recommended for COVID-19. People with COVID-19 should receive supportive care to help relieve symptoms. For severe cases, treatment should include care to support vital organ functions. People who think they may have been exposed to COVID-19 should contact their healthcare provider immediately.”
