DLEACS in the Community

Dr. Lena Edwards Academic Charter School (DLEACS) teachers, staff and faculty packed the school cafeteria to meet the goal of making 200 sandwiches and food packages for those living at St. Lucy's, a shelter for the homeless in downtown Jersey City. The event was rolled out with Zion Baptist Church.

The project was intended to realize community partnerships as an open and thoughtful collaboration between faculty and community.

According to Zion's pastor, Jamal T. Johnson, DLEACS' support helped the church to further their mission by giving extra sets of hands to those in need. Zion Baptist Church offered book bags to students in need as well as performed a coat drive to serve the Bergen-Lafayette community during this past year. Both the school and church share a close geographic location.

The "Feed the Needy" collaborative effort was a success. In addition to St. Lucy's Shelter, food packages were given out at locations such as Journal Square Bus Terminal and other places around town.

What a way to teach the "Reason for the Season". We are proud of our faculty and staff. Good job DLEACS! See our photos here.
