DLEACS Probation Status

Last Updated: 6/27/2019 5:52 PM

Greetings Families:

Upon review of the results of the 2017-2018 statewide assessments, along with required compliance documents submitted to the New Jersey Department of
Education (the Department) by DLEACS and the classroom instruction observed during a site visit by a team from the Department, the Commissioner has
determined to place DLEACS on probation.

The Department has identified three (3) areas of concern with the need for significant improvement. The areas are, decline in Statewide Assessment Results as measured by the Department’s Academic Performance Frameworks; Chronic Absenteeism, where the DLEACS chronic absenteeism rate has increased from 11.5% (2016- 2017) to 14.7% (2017-2018), exceeding the State average of 9.1%; and observed low level of classroom instruction and student engagement. As a condition of probation, DLEACS is required to submit a remedial action plan to the Office of Charter and Renaissance Schools (OCRS). Accordingly, DLEACS submitted a Comprehensive Remedial Action Plan to the OCRS on Friday, June 7.

In an effort to continue to provide a high-quality education to our students with the goal of educating the whole child, teachers and administration will work diligently to implement and monitor the effectiveness of the aforementioned remedial action plan; thereby continuing to develop teacher capacity to provide rigorous and differentiated instruction that will fully engage our students during the teaching and learning process, leading to improved student performance. Additionally, we will
work in concert with our families to encourage student attendance on a daily basis through a tiered-system of supports and incentives.

We look forward to working with you to build on the successes we have garnered while addressing the areas in need of improvement as outlined by the Department.
Please note we will hold meetings with our school community during the summer to further outline the next steps in accordance with Department guidelines.

Sincerely,
Christopher Garlin
